I was born and raised in small Nebraska towns. From an early age, I loved books. I can still remember the smell of them when I visited the library to check out as many dog books as I could carry. I practically memorized the first two volumes of our home Childcraft set: Poems & Rhymes and Stories & Fables.
After college, my husband and I married and we moved to Nashville, Tennessee where I spent the first half of my career teaching 1st-4th grades. The second half, I had the best job in the school, as an elementary librarian.
In the library, I had the privilege of seeing picture books resonate with children. Before long, I dreamed of writing my own.
My husband and I have now spent 42 wonderful years together. We’ve been blessed with two amazing children, a son and a daughter, a precious granddaughter, and several devoted dogs. They provide endless inspiration now that I’m retired from teaching and focused on writing.
Immersing myself in the writing community has been an unexpected joy–full of encouragement, humor, and fellowship. I hope you’ll visit the Projects link to see some examples from my writing journey.
“It doesn’t happen all at once,” he said. “You become. It takes a long time.”
